Common Tax Categories in Uganda

A statutory contribution required from both employers and employees, aimed at securing employees’ retirement benefits. 

Deadline:

15th of the subsequent month 

Penalty

10% of the unpaid contributions per month

This is a tax deducted from employees’ salaries by the employer and remitted to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). 
 
Deadline:
15th of the subsequent month

2% per month on the unpaid tax

A tax on the supply of goods and services, applicable to businesses that exceed the VAT registration threshold.

15th of the subsequent month

2% interest on the unpaid VAT per month

Applied to payments for goods and services where the payer is required to withhold a percentage of the payment and remit it to URA. 

Deadline:

15th of the subsequent month

10% of the tax due, plus 2% interest per month

 A tax on company profits, payable by both resident and non-resident companies operating in Uganda.

Filed annually by 30th June

2% per month on the unpaid tax

A tax on the income of employees, payable to the local government where the business is located.

Paid annually by the end of the financial year (June 30th)

A tax on legal documents such as leases, contracts, and property transfers.

Due upon execution of the legal document
